Jio AirFiber Review: Is It Worth It?

Jio AirFiber has been making waves as a convenient alternative to traditional fiber broadband. But is it really worth the investment? Based on my 8-month personal experience, I’ll break down the benefits, drawbacks, and who should consider using it.

Pricing & Plan Details

I opted for the 30 Mbps plan, which costs ₹599 + 18% GST per month, totaling around ₹707 per month. This plan comes with 1000GB of data, which is more than enough for regular streaming, browsing, and even moderate downloading.

The Good: Why You Might Like Jio AirFiber

  1. Great Initial Speed – In the first few months, the downloading speed was perfect. Whether I was streaming HD content or downloading large files, everything worked smoothly.
  2. No Installation Hassles – Unlike wired fiber connections, Jio AirFiber is easy to set up, making it a great option for areas where Jio Fiber isn’t available.
  3. Decent Coverage for Small Spaces – If you’re using it for personal use or a small home setup (up to 3-4 users), it works well without connectivity issues.

The Bad: What Went Wrong?

  1. Frequent Speed Drops – After a few months, I noticed significant speed drops. At first, I thought it was a glitch, but it kept happening every 7 to 10 days.
  2. Inconsistent Performance – Even after contacting customer support multiple times (who temporarily fixed it), the issue kept coming back.
  3. Not Suitable for Uploading – If your main purpose is uploading content, I strongly do not recommend Jio AirFiber. The upload speeds are frustratingly slow.
  4. Limited User Capacity – While the range of the connection is good, it struggles when multiple devices (more than 3-4) are connected at once.

Who Should & Shouldn’t Buy Jio AirFiber?

You should consider it if:

  • You live in an area where Jio Fiber (wired LAN) is not available.
  • You have less than 3-4 users in your home or office.
  • Your main activities are browsing, watching videos, and moderate downloading.

Avoid it if:

  • You need a reliable and consistent connection for work or gaming.
  • You frequently upload content (videos, files, etc.).
  • You have more than 3-4 users needing stable internet.
  • Jio Fiber (wired) is available in your area—it’s cheaper and more stable than AirFiber.

Final Verdict

Jio AirFiber is a decent option for users who don’t have access to wired Jio Fiber, but it’s not without flaws. If you need stable, long-term, and high-performance internet, you’re better off going with a wired fiber connection instead. However, if you’re in a remote area and need internet for basic use with limited users, it can be a reasonable alternative.

Would I recommend it? Only in situations where fiber isn’t available. Otherwise, go for Jio Fiber or any other wired broadband option to avoid the hassle of speed drops and inconsistent service.
